The creation of The Mi'kmaqs: an animated history was made possible with funding from the Arts Smarts Nova Scotia program. Arts Smarts is the largest education initiative in Canada dedicated to improving the lives and learning capacity of Canadian children by injecting arts into academic programs and bringing artists into the schools.

All artwork and research were done by the students in Grade 5 at Pentz Elementary (2004-05) under the guidance of New Media Artist Ronnie Scullion and Grade Five Teachers John Croft and Angela Scott. School principal David Patrick offered support to the project.
