Canoe by Trevor

My presentation is on the canoe. The river canoe (used in my animation) is smaller than the ocean canoe. In my animation, the man is just carrying a piece of birchbark to the boat and it appears on the boat. But actually, the Mi'kMaq have to sew the birchbark on the frame with spruce roots. Once the frame is put together, the Mi'kMaq have to seal up the spaces with spruce gum.

As I showed in the animation, the birchbark canoe is held up by oak logs sticking out of the ground. The Mi'kMaq also made hide-covered crafts, for when bark was not available. The hides often rotted after a short while in the water, so they used birchbark.
