The Eel Weir by Brenna

The Micmacs had many hunting tricks and traps. One of these was the eel weir. The men would build their eel weir in the river. It would start out as spruce poles attached to the bank with an opening in the direction the current was flowing and the eels were swimming. Eels would then enter the eel weir through the pole pathway and enter a spruce box. Inside a hole was dug! The eels would fall helplessly into it and become trapped. They caught countless eels this way!
